We had our Night at the Library on Tuesday, and it was a great success!
Despite the rainy weather, 14 students and their families joined us at the Athens Clarke-County Library for a total of 36 visitors. Some of the families who came were frequent users of the library, and a few students already had PINES cards. But a few of the families who showed up that night were not regular library patrons, and we had 10 students sign up for their very own library cards!
Our event included a tour of the library, information about programs and special events, a raffle for a bag of books and goodies (we’ll find out the lucky winner on Friday 10/2), and plenty of time to browse the library’s collection of books and other resources. The pigeon coloring sheets (from Mo Willems’ Pigeon series) and the computers were also a big hit!
I had a great time seeing students outside of school, meeting so many parents and siblings, and watching the students get excited about checking out books from the public library. Seeing the kids’ eyes light up as they scanned their brand new library cards for the first time was an experience I’ll never forget!
I might have also found some new titles I’d like to order for our school library… 🙂
Thanks to the library for inviting us to visit, to our teachers and staff and PTO for helping promote the event, and of course to all of the students and families who attended. It was a wonderful evening, and I’ll look forward to doing it again next year!
